UNRWA: Cooperation with Syrian government is positive-VIDEO

Damascus, SANA-Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Pierre Krahenbuhl described the standing cooperation between the UNRWA and the Syrian government as “positive”, hailing the support which Syria has been providing for Palestinian refugees since 1948.

In a press conference on Thursday, Krahenbuhl affirmed that the UNRWA is working hard to meet the increasing needs of Palestinian refugees in Syria, mainly for those who were displaced from Yarmouk Camp and are currently living in temporary residential centers in Yalda, Babila and Beit Sahm in Damascus Countryside.

He expressed his satisfaction over securing the evacuation of the Basic Education students from Yarmouk Camp on Wednesday, in coordination between the Syrian government and UNRWA for them to get prepared for their final exams.

He pointed out that around 120,000 Palestinian refugees had left Syria due to the crisis in it and they are currently living in Lebanon, Jordan, Europe, Latin America and some Asian countries.

About his meetings with Syrian officials during the past few days, Krahenbuhl said that the meetings were open and encouraging in which they discussed all issues related to the status of refugees and the efforts to resolve their problems, such as providing protection for them and means to deliver humanitarian aid to certain areas.
