Damascus, SANA- Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs, Local Administration Minister Omar Ghalawanji said that the government continues work to deliver humanitarian aid to hard-to-reach areas, explaining that since the beginning of 2016 aid was delivered to 48 areas in Damascus, Idleb, Homs, Hasaka, Aleppo, Hama and Deir-Ezzor countryside, from which more than one million persons benefited.
During a meeting with Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Pierre Krahenbuhl and the accompanying delegation, Ghalawanji pointed out the importance of coordination between the government and the acting parties in the humanitarian and relief fields, adding that the government, represented by the Higher Committee for Relief, has taken measures to ensure delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to needy and affected persons in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the General Authority for Palestine Arab Refugees (GAPAR).
Ghalawanji also pointed to the government’s keenness to rehabilitate the infrastructure and public facilities in many areas to which the Syrian Arab Army has restored security and stability, which would allow families to return to their areas and to acquire all their needs.
In turn, Krahenbuhl said that his visit to Syria aims to witness the reality of relief and humanitarian work and to secure the needs of the Palestinian refugees who are staying in makeshift housing centers, calling for continuing cooperation between the Syrian government, UNRWA, and GAPAR to offer humanitarian and relief aid and vital services in an bid to reduce pressure and difficulties that the Palestinian refugees face due to the crisis in Syria.
