Damascus, SANA – US Senator Richard Black said on Thursday he has been following the events in Syria closely since the very beginning of the terrorist war waged against it, noting that what is happening in country is a plot by foreign powers to destroy the country.
Black remarks came during a meeting with the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East John X Yazigi at the Mariamite Cathedral in Damascus in the presence of Syria’s Permanent envoy to the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari.
The US Senator noted that he will convey the reality of what is happening in Syria which refutes the false news and allegations circulated through media outlets about the events in the country.
For his part, Patriarch Yazigi stressed the unity of Syrian people, Muslims and Christians, and their adherence to the home land, steadfastness and support to the Syrian army under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, expressing hope security and stability would be restored to Syria soon.
Yazigi called upon major powers which claim to defend the human rights, democracy and freedom, including the U.S., to abandon their double-standard policy and help achieve peace in Syria
Mr. Black also met the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East Mar Ignatius Aphram II in the presence of Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban and al-Jaafari.
He hailed the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab army offered to defeat terrorism which has affected all spectrums of the Syrian people and has posed a threat to the international security and stability.
For his part, Patriarch Aphram II pointed out to the terrorist attacks and crimes perpetrated against the Syrian people, including Muslim and Christian clergymen, as well as mosques and churches, reiterating Syrian people’s unity in the face of this terrorist war targeting their homeland.
In a relevant context, Senator Black visited some injured soldiers at Ahmad Hamish Hospital in Damascus and inspected the services provided to its departments and the artificial limbs factory.
Mr. Black expressed deep concern over the economic blockade imposed by the US on Syria which restrained the latter’s ability to import and manufacture artificial limbs and provide necessary medical care to the injured, describing such act as a crime against humanity.
He questioned the US decision to prevent the delivery of medical equipment to whatever country serving political goals, adding that “We should stop this dirty war and lift the economic siege.”
