Five new breaches of cessation of hostilities by terrorist groups in Syria

Lattakia, SANA – The armed groups committed 5 new breaches of the cessation of hostilities agreement in Syria during the past 24 hours, putting the number of breaches since February 27 at 406, according to the Russian coordination Center in Hmeimim.

The Center said in a statement published on the website of the Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday that it observed 5 breaches carried out by the so-called “Ahrar al-Sham”, three of them committed in Lattakia and the two others in Homs.

It explained that “Ahrar al-Sham” militants used improvised rocket launchers and mortars in shelling a village in Homs and three other villages in Lattakia.

The Center affirmed that the Russian air force has not targeted any positions for armed groups which announced their commitment to the agreement and informed the American and Russian coordination centers of these groups’ sites.

The number of towns and villages which joined the cessation of hostilities has reached 69 after agreement was reached with representatives of 4 towns in Aleppo, while the number of armed groups that had announced approval remains 50, according to the Center.

It noted that terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra attempted to attack a number of military posts in Lattakia and others fired mortar shells on al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo.

The cessation of hostilities agreement, which came into effect on 27 February, does not include Jabhat al-Nusra, ISIS and other groups listed by the UN as terrorist organizations.
