Deir Ezzor, SANA – Cameraman Ibrahim al-Hamwi from Syrian TV channel al-Ikhbariya was injured by gunfire from ISIS terrorists in Deir Ezzor countryside on Friday.
Director of al-Ikhbariya TV Imad Sara told SANA that terrorists from ISIS opened fire on the channel’s news team as they were covering the Army and Armed Forces’ operations in the village of al-Jafra 7 km east of Deir Ezzor city.
Sara said the attack caused moderate injuries to al-Hamwi’s stomach and abdomen, while the rest of the team were unharmed, adding that army personnel rushed the cameraman to a medical center where he received treatment, confirming that his condition is stable.
Sara said that terrorist attacks which target journalists will not succeed in undermining their determination to cover the war on terror, and that al-Ikhbariya TV will continue covering counterterrorism operations until the entirety of Syria is secured.
In a phone call with al-Ikhbariya TV, Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said the attack on the news team was an attempt to silence the media outlets that report the truth, and that terrorists target national media and journalists because they relay the truth to the Syrian people and the world.
The Minister wished al-Hamwi a quick recovery, hoping that this would be the last time a member of Syrian media is injured in the course of carrying out their duty.
