Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the parliamentary elections are an important step towards stabilizing the situation in the country.
Zakharova added on her Facebook page that according to what is happening in Syria, the elections are an important factor for the stabilization of the situation in Syria, noting that more than 7000 polling stations were open.
On the other hand, Zakharova called on the West to honestly cooperate with Moscow to resolve the crisis in Syria away from double standards.
In reply to a question by journalists published on the ministry’s website, Zakharova said: “We will move ahead with our intensive efforts to push the peace process in Syria forward,” adding “We are counting on an effective cooperation with our Western partners on the basis of equality and mutual respect based on international law.”
Bogdanov and the US Ambassador discuss settlement in Syria
Meanwhile, Russian President’s Special envoy, deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov discussed with US Ambassador in Moscow John Tift means of the political settlement to the crisis in Syria.
Sputnik news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying that talks during the meeting dealt with aspects of the political solution in Syria amid the new round of the Syrian-Syrian dialogue.
