Bogdanov: Next round of Syrian talks in Geneva will start on April 11

Cairo, SANA – Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and African Countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said the next round of Syrian talks in Geneva will start on April 11 and the members of Syrian government delegation will join the talks only later, after they would have participated in the parliamentary elections due on April 13.

Bogdanov’s remarks came after a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Samih Shukri on Wednesday in Cairo.

The two sides discussed the political settlement for the crisis in Syria as both Russia and Egypt are members in the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) and the teams operating in the fields of cessation of hostilities and humanitarian aid delivery, Bogdanov told the reporters.

He stressed the importance of the participation of all spectra of the Syrian opposition in Geneva talks, pointing out that Moscow has been in contact with many of them.

Bogdanov said the Syrians must be encouraged to push for finding a political solution to the crisis based on the UN Security Council resolutions and the international data and with the participation of all those who participated in the meetings of Cairo, Moscow and Riyadh and the government delegation.
