Homs, SANA – Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi discussed with Anthony Lake the Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Monday the issue of providing educational and health aid to children in light of the harsh psychological impacts caused by terrorism.
The Governor stressed the importance of their meeting which boosts the process of the work and cooperation between the Governorate and UNICEF with the aim of delivering relief and health aid in the medical and educational sectors to all areas, pointing out the assistance provided by the government to children for continuing education as well as providing them with healthcare.
Al-Barazi said that nine schools opened this year in the Old City of Homs compared to four last year, which constitutes evidence of the return of displaced people to their houses, pointing out the ongoing reconsolidation in al-Waar neighborhood.
For his part, Lake pointed out the efforts exerted by the international organizations for achieving advance in different humanitarian and relief levels to reach all areas in cooperation with the Syrian government, which provides help to these organizations and continuous support during the reconstruction stage.
Lake referred to the importance of the meetings he held with a number of children in Homs, as they expressed insistence on going ahead in their education.
The meeting was attended by UNICEF Regional Director Dr. Peter Salama and Hana Singer Head of UNICEF in Damascus.
