People’s Assembly discusses situation of prices and markets

Damascus, SANA-People’s Assembly held on Wednesday a regular session which was dedicated to hear answers from the Internal Trade Minister Jamal Shahin on questions raised by members of the Assembly on the situation of prices, markets and procedures to control the rise in the prices.

Minister Shahin attributed the rise in prices to “objective reasons and others personal which are related to his ministry,” adding that the decrease in the State’s resources and the destruction in infrastructure at the hands of terrorism, the drop of production and the decrease of trade and industrial productions, all of that caused an increase in the cost levels, according to the Minister.

“The decrease of the Syrian pound’s purchasing power was the basic, objective factor behind the increase of prices,” Minister Shahin added.

Other MPS called for monitoring markets, controlling the prices and punishing manipulators.
