Moscow, SANA – Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that his country seeks to solve the crisis in Syria in political and diplomatic means.
Putin clarified, during Defender of the Fatherland Day on Saturday, that terrorists in Syria describe Russia openly as an enemy and they do not hide their expansionist plans.
President Putin praised the Russian armed forces taking part in the anti-terrorist operation in Syria, saying that “their job deserves the highest mark,”
Russian aviation has been carrying out daily airstrikes against ISIS, Al-Nusra front and other terrorist groups in Syria since September 30, 2015 upon request from the Syrian government.
“In the difficult conditions they assist the Syrian government forces and other participants of the anti-terrorist struggle in crushing the militants, save civilians from violence, barbarism and tyranny,” he stressed.
Defender of the Fatherland Day is an annual public holiday in Russia and some post-Soviet countries, celebrated on February 23. It honors those, who serve or have served in the military.
