Damascus, SANA – The Ministry of Culture announced the names of winners of the State Appreciation Rewards for the year 2014 in the fields of Literature, Arts, and Criticism, Translations and Studies.
Every winner gets a SYP 1 million and a golden medal.
Dr. Nazeer al-Azma, winner of the Literature Award, was born in Damascus in 1930. He obtained his PH.D. from the US and is considered one of the prominent poets and among pioneers to improve the Arab modern poetry.
Plastic Artist Laila Naseir was born in Lattakia in 1941 and graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1963. She was awarded an appreciation patent from the Cabinet in 1989.
Dr. Nabil al-Haffar, winner of the Award of Criticism, Translations and Studies, was born in Damascus in 1945. He obtained a diploma in German Literature in 1971 and a PH.D in Theatric Arts from Humboldt University in Berlin in 1988. He won the Grimm Prize for Translation in 1982 and the 2010 Goethe Prize.
