Performance of Labor and Social Affairs ministries discussed at the People’s Assembly session

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly discussed in its session on Sunday the performance of the ministries of Labor and Social Affairs under the current circumstances and their efforts to tackle certain issues.

Responding to MPs’ inquiries and comments, Social Affairs Minister Rima al-Qadiri highlighted the ministry’s efforts to activate the work of the Central Council for People with Disabilities.

She noted that the ministry is currently working on establishing a day school for people with disabilities in the coastal Tartous province and preparing a study for establishing a training center for people with physical and mental disabilities who are aged 14–25 to help them to find a job.

Al-Qadiri said the ministry has set up an emergency plan to tackle beggary in cooperation with the Interior and Justice ministries.

In turn, Labor Minister Khalaf al-Abdullah said the draft law amending the Basic Law of State Workers is now almost in its final form and will be submitted to the Cabinet this week, noting that the law will solve a lot of pending problems since 2004.
