Moscow, SANA-The Russian Foreign Ministry urged on Thursday all external parties to provide the suitable atmosphere to start the Syrian-Syrian talks and to move forward with the political process to find a solution for the crisis “without trying to impose any external dictates”.
In a press statement in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that in line with the understanding reached within the framework of the international group of Syrian support, the needed conditions to begin dialogue between the Syrian government and the “opposition” need to be created around the end of this year, stressing that only Syrians have the right to determine their state form and to choose their leadership.
Zakharova pointed out that Damascus has identified a list of its representatives to participate in the Syrian-Syrian dialogue while the opposition didn’t offer its list so far, stressing the need that the list include a wide range of ingredients including all internal and external forces.
She pointed out that Russia is providing Syria with humanitarian aid, noting that the sanctions imposed on Syria affected the structure of social relations and the trade exchange between Russia and Syria, and this is what Russia is working to rebuild along with special attention to the security of Russian citizens who live and work in Syria.
She added that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will attend the Organization for Security and Co-operation meeting in Europe in Belgrade on December 3-4 to discuss joint efforts in the fight against terrorism.
She expressed hope that participant states will discuss the sources of terrorism and the need to join efforts in the fight against this evil in addition to the emigration issue.
About the downing of the Russian jet by Turkey, Zakharova reiterated that the Turkish Air Force made no attempts to contact the Russian Su-24 Flanker bomber before it was downed and the aircraft did not cross the Turkish border, adding that this was confirmed by the Russian radio electronic intelligence at the Hmeymim Airbase in Lattakia.
“We have repeatedly pointed to all sorts of insinuations against alleged civilian casualties as a result of the Russian aviation’s action. I can once again say that all such allegations have nothing to do with reality,” she said.
She noted that Russia’s Aerospace Forces are choosing the terrorists’ targets very carefully.
