Madrid, SANA – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon welcomed Iran’s participation for the first time in the international talks in Vienna aimed at reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria, calling on the participants to show “flexibility” during the talks.
“I am encouraged that the high-level leaders are meeting in Vienna to discuss the situation in Syria,” Ban was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency in Madrid on Thursday.
“My sincere hope is that they will really address this issue with a sense of flexibility, whatever differences they may have in their political views, in their approaches. They should be united,” he added.
He went on saying “The longer they take their own national perspectives, much more people will suffer and the whole world will suffer,” asserting that “there is no military solution in Syria.”
