Moscow, SANA – Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that one of the Russian servicemen stationed at the Hmeimim airbase in Lattakia countryside killed himself.
“A contract serviceman stationed at the Hmeimim airbase as a technician committed suicide while he was resting after duty,” Russia Today website quoted the Ministry as saying in a statement.
The statement noted that investigation is still ongoing to know the circumstances of the suicide incident.
A number of Russian military members are present at Hmeimim airbase, where Russian aircrafts take off to conduct air strikes on terrorist positions in Syria.
The Russian air strikes started on September 30, and have so far destroyed over 1100 targets, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
