Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly discussed during its session on Wednesday the performance of the Industry Ministry and the Agriculture Ministry and their efforts to implement their programs and improve production.
Assembly members called for improving work at industrial cities and expanding them, giving businessmen licenses to import raw materials for industrial production, rehabilitating factories that were put out of commission, and compensating farmers and livestock breeders that were affected by the crisis.
They also called for revaluating the status of some production companies, working to reduce the prices of animal products, providing transportation for agriculture supplies and crops, following up on contracts signed with Arab and foreign industrial companies, and supporting industrialists.
Responding to members, queries and comments, Industry Minister Kamal Eddin Taameh said that the Ministry’s strategy focuses on launching industrial projects that employ agricultural raw materials, which will help boost both the industrial and the agricultural sectors.
Taameh said the Ministry has rehabilitated 22 partially-damaged factories, and the rest are currently on hold pending the availability of resources.
For his part, Agriculture Minister Ahmad al-Qadri said that efforts are underway to introduce alternative crops that have low irrigation requirements, adding that work is underway to provide the needs of the upcoming winter farming season.
