Damascus, SANA- Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis discussed on Monday with Resident Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Syria Elizabeth Hoff joint cooperation for meeting the needs of health centers affiliated to Electricity Ministry and the possibility of training field staffs on basic first aid skills.
During the meeting, Khamis pointed out that armed terrorist organizations are daily targeting electricity workers as they are performing their duties.
The minister affirmed that health care services are provided freely to 44 thousand workers in the ministry through medical centers distributed in all provinces, adding that around SYP 2.5 billion were disbursed in service of the electricity sector’s workers in the health field.
“The ministry’s priorities are now focused on supplying hospitals and pharmaceutical facilities with electricity,” he affirmed.
Khamis called for assigning representatives from the ministry and WHO to coordinate their efforts in the field of health and medical work.
In turn, Hoff pointed out that the electricity sector is one of the vital and important sectors for stabilizing the health situation, stressing the organization’s readiness to provide technical support needed to train workers in the electricity sector on basic first aid skills essential for saving lives, particularly in rural areas.
