New York, SANA Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz said the solution to the refugees crisis in Europe should be through uprooting the problem by finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria and fighting the terrorist organizations.
Kurz’s remarks were quoted by the Lebanese National News Agency following his meeting with Lebanese Foreign and Expatriates Minister Gebran Bassil in New York on Saturday.
“First we should try to find a peaceful solution in Syria,” he said, adding that the second thing is doing whatever necessary for fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and all other terrorist groups.
Third, Kurz said, there is need for more humanitarian aid in the region, particularly in
Syria and the neighboring countries.
Putting the number of refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan this year at over 100,000, Kurz affirmed that the solution is not through receiving more refugees but through addressing the roots of the crisis, which serves the interest of the European Union as well as Lebanon, through which many of the refugees reach Europe.
