UNRWA says it is committed to providing services to Palestinians in Syria

Damascus, SANA – Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Pierre Krahenbuhl, stressed the agency’s commitment to providing its services to the Palestinian refugees in Syria.

In statements made on Thursday, Krahenbuhl said the UNRWA is making efforts to make up for the shortage in its resources to secure that all students have access to schools, noting that some government schools have been used to cover evening classes since there are difficulties to access some UNRWA-affiliated schools in some areas.

He highlighted that the agency is continuing delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian refugees in al-Yarmouk Camp neighborhood in Damascus and those displaced from it and are staying in Yalda, Babila and Bait Sahm towns, noting that this aid has been doubled.

He also pointed out that the shortages in the agency’s funding sources is due to the increased needs that the UNRWA works to meet through new programs.
