Legislative decree on granting archeologist Khaled al-Asaad Syrian Order of Merit of excellent degree

Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday issued legislative decree no 229 for 2015 on granting the archeologist Khaled al-Asaad, after death, the Syrian Order of Merit, of   excellent degree, for his great achievements in archeology.

The 80-year-old al-Asaad, was beheaded and crucified by the terrorist organization of “Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham” (ISIS) on colonnade in the ancient city of Palmyra on 18th of August.

Khaled al-Asaad was born in Palmyra in 1934. He received diplomas in history and education from Damascus University and worked as Director of Archeology in Palmyra and curator of Palmyra National Museum for over 50 years.
