Iran supports Syria and Iraq in face of terrorism, President Rouhani stresses

Tehran, SANA Iranian President Hassan Rouhani denounced terrorist acts of armed groups in Syria, Iraq and the region, and expressed his country’s support of Syria and Iraq in facing terrorism.

The Zionist entity was established on the basis of terrorism and the killing, and the region is now witnessing terrorist acts committed by terrorist organizations as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist ones which should be fought, Rouhani said in a speech at the opening of the 2nd International Congress of 17,000 Iranian Terror Victims held in Tehran Monday.

The Iranian President added that terrorism doesn’t regognize neither moderation, nor dialogue or peace, asserting that Iran stand by the oppressed and those who are fighting terrorism in Syria, Iraq and everywhere and any country which supports
terrorism will be its prey.

The two-day international congress is to pay tribute to martyrs of terrorist assassinations by honoring a number of the families.

How can some parties, which are supporting terrorism, claim fighting it, and how some countries can be silent towards the terrorist groups in the region, Rouhani wondered.

Slamming the US for supporting terrorism, the Iranian President criticized the UN and some international organizations for not adopting any serious steps towards denouncing any of the Zionist occupation’s crimes against the Palestinian people.

The Syrian Ambassador in Iran Adnan Mahmoud called in statements during the conference for pressuring, by all means, the countries that are supporting the terrorist organizations in Syria to stop funding and arming them.

Some regional countries, the West and the US, Mahmoud said, should bear the responsibility for the crimes committed by the terrorists against the Syrian people as they continue providing cover and military and logistic support to the terrorist organizations, in addition to them practicing falsification and misleading through their attempts to present some groups of terrorists as being “moderate”.

On a relevant note, advisor to the Leader of the Iranian Revolution, Ali Akbar Velayati, reiterated Iran’s support for Syria, the Syrian government, and the Syrian people’s right to self determination.

Meeting a Lebanese delegation currently visiting Tehran, Velayati said that foreign interference in Syria’s affairs and the terrorist war waged on it serve the interests of the United States and Israel.

He said that some of the regional states involved in the war on Syria have no semblance of democracy whatsoever, and are just seeking to gain influence by spending large amounts of money.

Velayati voiced confidence that President Bashar al-Assad, who won the most recent presidential elections, will win in the elections again and will get more votes, because Syrians know that he dedicated himself to Syria’s interests.
