Photo exhibition and charity bazaar on occasion of World Humanitarian Day

Damascus, SANA The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) organized an activity at the Opera House in Damascus on  occasion of World Humanitarian Day, which is
marked on August 19.

The event, held in cooperation with a number of humanitarian organizations in Syria, includes a photo exhibition showcasing the delivery of humanitarian aid during the crisis in  Syria, in addition to two theatrical performances
on women issues related to the crisis.

Resident UN Coordinator Jacob el-Helo lauded the efforts, bravery, and sacrifices of humanitarian workers in Syria, noting that 78 humanitarian workers have been lost since the  beginning of the crisis, including 48 SARC
workers.

For his part, Chairman of the SARC Abdelrahman al- Attar said that the organization will continue its humanitarian efforts which it has been carrying it out since the beginning of the crisis in cooperation with international
organizations and local civil societies.

A charity bazaar featuring homemade handicrafts and food made by Syrian women and families of martyrs, and displaced people was held on the sideline of the event, with the participation of several local societies and the
UNRWA’s Social Development Center.

August 19 was chosen to mark World Humanitarian Day to commemorate the day in 2003 when 22 UN workers were killed in a bombing in Baghdad.
