Syrian team comes out second among Arab states in computer programming contest in Russia

Moscow, SANA -The Syrian team has come out second among the Arab states and 82th internationally in the Worldwide Computer Programming Contest that took place underway in Russia.

Some 122 student teams from around the world have met in Ekaterinburg, Russia to compete in the 38th Annual World Finals of the IBM-sponsored ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), known as “the Battle of the Brains.”

The Russian Saint Petersburg University team occupied the first place in the competitions.

Gold, silver and bronze medals were distributed on the winners in a ceremony after the committee organizing the competitions announced the final results.

Celebrating the Syrian achievement, the Syrian embassy in Moscow organized a luncheon in honor of the Syrian delegation who took part in the contest.

The Syrian team has progressed notably in this year’s competitions in comparison to 2013, occupying the second place among the Arab states compared to the fourth last year, and the 82th internationally compared to the 95th in 2013.

Speaking to SANA reporter in Moscow, Dr. Jaafar al-Khayyer who is head of the Syrian delegation to the contest, thanked the Syrian delegation who he said have “scored an outstanding accomplishment despite tough conditions in Syria.”
