Ankara, SANA- After the failure of his Justice and Development Party “AKP” to win the majority of votes in the legislative elections, President of the Turkish regime Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Ahmet Davutoglu’s cabinet, but asked it to stay in charge till a new government is formed.
Earlier on Tuesday, the semiofficial results of the elections were declared as the AKP lost the majority of seats for the first time in twelve years as it obtained 40.81 % of the votes while the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) garnered 13.5 % of the votes and the Turkish Republican People’s Party (CHP) gained 25% while the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) took 16% of the votes.
Turkish media said that Erdogan met Davutoglu at his new palace and accepted the resignation of the current government according to the Turkish constitution and he asked him to remain in charge till forming the new government.
Based on the results of the elections, the AKP took only 256 of the seats in the parliament, the CHP 132 seats, the HDP 82 seats and the MHP 80 seats.
The results of the elections dealt a blow to Erdogan’s dreams of imposing a constitutional change on Turkey and transforming its regime from a parliamentary to a presidential as he will be deprived of acquiring sweeping new powers and forming a single party government.
