WHO offers SYP 10 million to support health sector in Sweida

Sweida, SANA- Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) Elizabeth Hoff said the organization will donate medical and health aid valued at SYP 10 million to Shahba Charity Association to improve its medical services.

During a meeting with Sweida Governor Atef al-Naddaf on Monday, Hoff pointed out that this project involves a donation to fund 235 surgical procedures and supplying the Association’ clinic with medical equipment, in addition to offer SYP 2 million for buying medicine and SYP 800,000 for medical tests and X-ray imaging.

She affirmed that the WHO will continue to provide help to Syrians and deliver medicines and health services, particularly in unsafe areas, in addition to seeking to increase the amount of aid to help a larger number of people in need.

During the meeting, both sides discussed means to enhance joint cooperation in the health sector and improving health and humanitarian relief efforts.

Al-Naddaf pointed out that unjust economic blockade on Syria and the effects of aggressive war on it prevented building pediatric and maternity hospitals in the province.

For his part, chairman of Shahba Charity Association Adnan al-Tawil said that the donation will help the Association to implement health care program for displaced and affected families in Sweida, adding that the program will also cover free health services and medicine for contagious and chronic diseases.

Following the meeting, Hoff and the accompanying delegation visited the National Hospital in Sweida city and the temporary housing center at the Vanguards camp to inspect the health and relief services being provided there.
