Kafram…an ancient Syriac town famous for gorgeous nature charms

Homs, SANA – Clad in a green garment of forests and decorated with a brown bracelet of mountains, Kafram town, 50 km to the northwest of the central Homs province, is one of the most important tourist destinations in the country with unique charming nature, stunning views and moderate climate.

The town is located at the foot of Dahr al-Qasir Mountain whose slopes are covered with hundreds of the evergreen trees.

The name of the town is Syriac and it consists of two words “Kafr” which means the “spot” or the “small village”, and “Ram” which means the high area.

1Inside Kafram village, one can see a small church called al-Qasr (Arabic for palace), hundreds of meters to the north of the current location of the town. The church’s name has been used for hundreds of years.

Kafram enjoys a moderate to cold weather in summer, while the weather is cold in winter, which makes it one of the most important summer destinations in Syria.

It is 850-1150 m above sea level, where one can see the clouds shrouding the town in both summer and winter.111

A number of springs flow from the mountains in the village with cold and fresh water, the most important of which is the ancient Ain al-Hamra Spring which dates back to hundreds of years ago.

About 4 thousand people live in the town where all the basic services are available, for example, the first primary school was established in the town eighty years ago.

People of the town, including current inhabitants and those living abroad, have played a significant role in carrying out many of the vital projects in Kafram, such as building schools, churches and health centers.
