Syrian-Iranian talks on implementing economic cooperation agreement

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi and Advisor to the First Vice President of Iran, head of the Committee for Development of Iranian-Syrian Economic Relations Rostam Ghasemi, discussed on Monday means to implement agreements between the two countries and to sign new agreements to boost economic, commercial, industrial, and technical cooperation.

The two sides also discussed means to provide the Syrian market’s needs in terms of petroleum products, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and spare parts for factories, facilities, and power stations, in addition to procuring consumer goods and the needs of the agricultural and water resources sectors.

Al-Halaqi called for having a strategic map to further develop the growing Syrian-Iranian relations and meet the local market’s needs in light of the unjust embargo imposed on Syria, adding that Iranian companies will have priority in the reconstruction stage and projects for rehabilitating infrastructure damaged by terrorism.

For his part, Ghasemi reasserted Iran’s support for the people and leadership of Syria and its commitment to expanding relations between the two countries.

In the same context, official talks on implementing the economic cooperation agreement signed by the two countries in March were held, with Ghasemi heading the Iranian side and Secretary of the Cabinet Taisir al-Zoubi heading the Syrian side in the meeting.

The meeting discussed prospects of cooperation in the fields of investment, trade, industry, energy, health, and pharmaceuticals, in addition to revising the free trade agreement and implementing other signed agreements.
