Organized mass foreign currency transfer by expatriates on Friday to support Syrian pound

Damascus, SANA – Public intervention for supporting the Syrian pound (lira) by the Syrian expatriates abroad is due next Friday and lasts for several days to be followed with weekly intervention campaigns within the legal means of the states they live in.

Rami Yazigi, the founder of the “Phoenix Campaign”, told SANA that supporting the Syrian pound by the expatriates is through buying liras or depositing dollars in Syria.
He pointed out that on 15th of the current month, the expatriates can go to exchange companies for exchanging at least USD 100 to Syrian pounds and keeping the national currency with them.

“We expect this campaign to be effective because the sudden demand on a certain currency or commodity will lead directly to raise its price and value based on the supply and demand laws that are ruling markets in the world,” he said.

“In light of the economic sanctions on the Syrian banks, the team of the campaign is working on collecting the names of the banks allied with Syria abroad to facilitate the process for the participants,” Yazigi clarified.

“We started with supporting the Lira and our next step is going to start next September according to a precise plan by economists and merchants for supporting the prices of commodities and reducing their prices through dumping the market with goods with low prices, which makes those who manipulate of prices forced to reduce the prices of their goods,” he continued to say.

Some 23 businessmen abroad in addition to hundreds of participants are joining the campaign according Yazigi.

Last Monday witnessed a big and tangible increase in the foreign currencies transferred by expatriates to Syria.
