UN spokesman: de Mistura to start separate negotiations with sides concerned in crisis in Syria

 

Geneva, SANA – UN Spokesman Ahmad Fawzi said on Monday the UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura will start on Tuesday separate negotiations with all sides concerned in the crisis in Syria.

AFP quoted Fawzi as saying that the negotiations, supposed to start today, will be launched on Tuesday at the UN palace in Geneva, adding that de Mistura will make a briefing to the media tomorrow afternoon.

He added consultations will be run without media coverage.

Russia’s UN representative: Moscow ready to resume Syrian-Syrian talks

Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Alexey Borodavkin, said Monday that Moscow is ready to resume the Syrian-Syrian negotiations in Moscow along with the procedures taken by the UN to solve the crisis in Syria.

Novosti News Agency quoted Borodavkin as saying that Russia is ready to resume the talks between the Syrian government and opposition in parallel with the process in Geneva, adding that the two events are integrated.

He hoped the consultations in Geneva will lead to a Syrian “Geneva Conference III”. “We hope the two rounds of inter Syrian talks in Moscow have contributed to the launch of the political settlement in Syria”, he said, adding that the beginning of the consultations in Geneva implies that the train has gained momentum and the next stop will be “Geneva III”.
