Patriarch Yazigi: Martyrdom embodies unity of Syrians

Damascus, SANA – In honor of the Syrian martyrs, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Mariamite Cathedral in Damascus.

The Sunday evening celebration also included prayers and hymns honoring martyrdom as a path in which “both happiness and pain are experienced”.

His Beatitude Patriarch John X Yazigi presided over the Divine Liturgy, stressing that “this land which drank the blood did not ask whether it was the blood of Christian or Muslim martyrs, as the martyrs’ blood is one and it is the blood of truth”.

Patriarch Yazigi stressed the Christians’ adherence to their land, saying Christianity is firm and standing as Mount Qasioun in Damascus and snow on the Lebanese mountains.

He prayed for the safety and victory of the Syrian people, army and leadership, praying to God to protect President Bashar al-Assad and bless any sincere effort towards dialogue and openness.

The Divine Liturgy was attended by Ministers of Tourism, Social Affairs, Health, Culture and State Minister of Environmental affairs, in addition to political, religious, economic, cultural, academic and popular figures.
