Palestinians denounce Nafa re-prosecution, assert right to communicate with brethren

Occupied Jerusalem, SANA – Israel’s re-prosecution of Palestinian lawyer Said Nafa is being vehemently condemned, in renewed assertion of the Palestinian people’s right to communicate with their relatives outside occupied Palestine.

It is this right and not just Nafa in person that is being targeted, the National Committee for Communication in Occupied Palestine said in a statement.

The Israeli authorities jailed Nafa in September 2007 on the charge of visiting Syria and meeting with Palestinians from the territories occupied in 1948. Nafa was sentenced to one-and-a-half years in prison.

He is now being re-prosecuted, with a new trial hearing scheduled on May 28th.

The Committee called on the Palestinian people to rise and demonstrate in defense of Nafa who is targeted over practicing “a sacred right” of communicating with Palestinian brethren.

The Palestinian people will remain committed to their right to communicate with their families and relatives wherever they are regardless of the Israeli intimidation attempts, the Committee’s statement stressed.
