Damascus, SANA- Damascus University celebrated Monday the 69 anniversary of Independence Day and held a festival on this occasion at Damascus University auditorium.
Participants in the festival renewed their adherence to national principles and continuing struggle and resistance path, which was paved by heroes of Great Syrian Revolution, to defend homeland against terrorism in order to restore security and stability.
Rector of Damascus University Dr. Mohammad Hassan al-Kurdi said that Independence day is a victory for the will of liberalization on forces of oppression and aggression and that victory of the national sense and loyalty to homeland against foreign domination was the result of the struggle and sacrifices of the Syrian people.
Al-Kurdi added that Syrians offered blood tax for the sake of free and independent Syria, affirming that Takfiri terrorist organizations will be uprooted from Syria by sacrifices of Syrian Arab Army as French colonist was uprooted 69 years ago.
In turn, Jamal al-mahmoud, Secretary of Damascus University branch of al-Baath Party said in a statement to SANA that Damascus University with its professors and students are in the first trench to defend the sovereignty of Syria, noting that Independence was not the end but the beginning of a long hard struggle by the Syrian people to achieve victory.
The festival was attended by members of the leadership of al-Baath Party branch, vice presidents and dean of the university, directors of hospitals and educational institutes as long as students and professors.
