Electricity Ministry plans is to increase power supply hours to 8 hours a day

Damascus, SANAـ Minister of Electricity, Engineer Omar Shaqrouq, explained that at the beginning of Ramadan, some power stations and turbines were serviced and put into operation, which led to an increase in power supply hours. He noted that the ministry’s plan, following the arrival of quantities of fuel oil, aims to increase supply hours to 8 hours per day.

In a press conference discussing the latest developments in the electricity sector and the importance of resuming gas supply to power stations, the Minister of Electricity stated: “We have a plan to ensure uninterrupted electricity for industrial cities 24 hours a day.”

He added that the increase in electricity supply will cover all governorates and that a plan has been put in place to support the grid with alternative energy.

The minister noted that it is not possible to provide electricity around the clock, as this would require 23 million cubic meters of gas and 5,000 tons of fuel oil daily.
