Minsk, SANA-Syria and Belarus signed on Thursday a protocol on increasing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade and economy.
The step was taken at the conclusion of the meetings of Joint Syrian-Belarusian Economic Cooperation Committee, chaired by Syrian Minister of Industry Kamal Tu’meh, and Belarusian Minister of Economy Vladimir Zinovsky.
The Belarusian Minister described the protocol as “a road map” to carry out and fulfill future projects to develop economic relations between Syria and Belarus.
“The two countries have the desire to enhance joint cooperation in trade field, vehicles, medical cosmetics and food,” Zinovsky said, highly evaluating the work of the joint committee.
For his part, Minister Tu’meh hailed the flexibility showed by the Belarusian side to have the discussions succeed, adding “Belarus seeks to find a positive, good environment to help create investments and hold joint projects through which both countries would overcome the economic sanctions imposed on them.
He appreciated stances of Belarus which support the international law and reject intervention in the domestic affairs of sovereign states.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Rusyi described as “strong and consolidated” the relations connecting Syria and Russia, rejecting any foreign intervention in Syria’s internal affairs.
Meeting the Syrian official delegation headed by Minister Tu’meh, Rusyi affirmed that unity of the Syrian people and their support to the Syrian leadership have foiled the hostile conspiracy on Syria.
“Syria is a friend country of Belarus, and even it is one of the most important partners in the Middle East… We are ready to do our best to boost bilateral cooperation in the interest of both peoples,” Rusyi added.
Minister Tu’meh, for his part, pointed to the importance of promoting economic relations between the two countries up to the level of political ones which were consolidated by Presidents Bashar al-Assad and Alexander Lukashenko.
He added that the credit line which Syria wants to establish with Belarus is not a loan, but it will be allocated to finance Belarusian exports to Syria, showing Syria’s readiness to export raw Phosphates to Belarus.
