Damiriyah, Head of ICRC delegation in Syria discuss bolster cooperation in health field

Damascus, SANA- Health Minister, Ahmad Damiriyah discussed Sunday with the head of the International Committee of Red Cross mission in Syria (ICRC), Stephan Sakalian, ways to enhance joint cooperation in the health scope, and increase the health services provided in Syria in the current situation.

During a meeting held today at Health Ministry, the two sides discussed the topics being worked on, such as diabetes clinics, leishmaniasis control, the prosthetic limbs center, emergency departments, and restorative surgeries.

Minister Damiriyah said that Syria’s relationship with the committee is old and dates back years, as the committee provided a lot of support during wars, disasters and pandemics, expressing his hope to intensify efforts, especially during the current stage, to provide health and humanitarian services more broadly.

Regarding arrivals from Lebanon,Minister Damiriyah pointed out that approximately 80,000 free medical services were provided, including general medical services, surgical operations, psychological and reproductive health, services related to those with chronic diseases, necessary vaccinations for children, and tetanus vaccine for women.

In turn, Sakalian stressed the committee’s keenness to cooperate with Syria and provide the necessary support to obtain appropriate health care, expressing readiness to provide the necessary support regarding the file of arrivals from Lebanon.

He also, noted the great facilities provided by the Syrian side during the work of the Red Cross team to provide support and medical assistance.
