Mikdad to ICARDA’s director general: Syria is ready to provide all facilities to resume the Center’s work in Syria

Cairo,SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad met Saturday in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with Aly Abousabaa, Director General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).

Mikdad praised the scientific and research role played by the center in Syria, the positive results of which were reflected regionally and globally, stressing the need to preserve and develop it.

Mikdad stressed the Syrian government’s readiness to provide all possible facilities and assistance to resume ICARDA’s work in Syria.

In turn, Abousabaa presented during the meeting the development services provided by the center to developing countries, pointing out the various challenges that the center faced as a result of what the area in which the center was located in Aleppo was exposed to since 2011.

Abousabaa expressed his aspiration to work again with the Syrian government to restore the center’s work in Syria, and resume its assistance in developing agricultural production and facing the challenges of climate change.

Minister Mikdad arrived this morning in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to hold talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Ati, and to participate in the 162nd regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.
