Mikdad: Israeli aggression on Gaza uncovered the hypocrisy of the West

New York, SANA-  Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad said that the Israeli aggression on Gaza uncovered the falsehood of the slogans of Western countries and exposed their lies, hypocrisy and lack of human values, as well as their blatant bias towards the Israeli occupier at the expense of International Law and the UN Charter.

He pointed out that Syria has repeatedly warned of the repercussions of this aggression and attacks on its territory, and has called on the Security Council to stop them, but the United States has prevented the Council from doing so, in violation of its obligations as a permanent member of the Council

Mikdad’s remarks came in Syria’s statement during the Ministerial Meeting of the Security Council dedicated to addressing the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue; and the Minister’s words were recited by the Permanent Representative of Syria to the UN, Qusay Al-Dahhak.

He denounced that “Israel” deliberately increased the escalation to the maximum through its brutal crimes and repeated aggressions against Syria and Lebanon, and regretted that the collective security system established by the United Nations Charter has failed to force the occupation authorities to immediately stop their aggressive policies and daily massacres.

He wondered why did Western countries remain silent about the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by “Israel” in full view of the entire world, while those same countries, when it comes to others, took the initiative to issue one resolution after another, hold session after session and create various unjustified mechanisms under unfounded pretexts and accusations.

He clarified that Israel’s crimes did not begin on October 7, because the criminal character is at the core of its aggressive nature, racist tendency and expansionist aspirations, and they are a continuation of a long series of massacres, acts of aggression and terrorism.

Mikdad reiterated Syria’s condemnation of Israeli crimes and demanded that they cease and that their perpetrators be held accountable.

He also reiterated his full support for the Palestinian people in their struggle to end the occupation and enjoy their inalienable rights, including the right to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and to be a full member of the United Nations.

He rejected all attempts to undermine the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) and stressed its important role in providing support to Palestinians in their homeland and in host countries, including Syria.

The US never sought to protect the Palestinians without giving Israel more time to exterminate them.

“Israeli occupation entity would not have dared to commit all these flagrant violations of international and humanitarian law had it not been for the direct involvement of the United States in the aggression and the unlimited political, military, financial and media support provided by several of its allies to “Israel” Mikdad added.

He reiterated his denunciation of Washington for preventing the Security Council from fulfilling its responsibilities to maintain regional peace and security, opening its weapons depots and using its veto five times in a few months to allow the Israeli entity to continue its crimes.

“In fact, the US administration unfairly granted itself the authority and right to determine and consider whether Security Council resolutions are binding or non-binding according to its whims and interests, and this was evident by denying the binding nature of Resolution 2728 calling for a ceasefire in Gaza hours after its issuance,” he pointed out.

In this regard, he added that Resolution 2735, which the US administration submitted to the Security Council, was nothing more than a way of giving illusions, and was never intended to protect the Palestinian people. Rather, it was to achieve internal electoral gains and to provide more time to enable “Israel” to exterminate more Palestinians and liquidate the Palestinian cause.

“These aggressive actions threaten to spread the flames of war in many parts of the region and the world unless Israel is prevented from its aggression and held accountable for its crimes,” he said.
