Damascus-SANA- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Bassam Sabbagh, stressed the importance of ensuring funds for the continuation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the role it plays in supporting the cause of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, expressing appreciation for the important work carried out by the agency in Syria.
Sabbagh, meeting Deputy Commissioner-General of UNRWA in the Near East, Natalie Boucly, said that the hostile campaigns carried out by the Israeli occupation entity, the United States and some of its allies against UNRWA, which aim to liquidate the agency’s mandate and end the services it provides to the Palestinian people, have failed.
Sabbagh expressed satisfaction with the resumption of funding by a number of countries to the agency after they had suspended it, based on the allegations of the Israeli occupation and the incitement campaign it promoted against UNRWA.
For her part, Boucly appreciated the facilities provided by Syria to UNRWA, briefing Sabbagh on the efforts made by the agency in assisting Palestinian refugees in Syria.
