“The Damascene Rose…from Syria to Turin” days kick off in the Italian city of Turin

Rome, SANA-With the aim of promoting the Syrian culture and defining the importance of its role in the countries of the Mediterranean basin, and based on the belief in the power of cultural diplomacy as a vital tool to foster international dialogue and encourage cooperation, peace and development among the peoples of the world, the days of “The Damascene Rose…from Syria to Turin” kicked off Tuesday in the Italian city of Turin.

The event is organized by the Royal Museums in Turin and the Syrian Trust for Development, along with the “Santagata Foundation for the Economy of Culture”.

The days of “The Damascene Rose…from Syria to Turin” start from the 4th to the 7th of this month, and include many rich cultural activities such as a photographic exhibition and musical, cinematic and literary evenings.

 “The Damascene Rose” will build cultural bridges between Syria and Italy, introduce the Syrian heritage and shed light on associated traditional practices and crafts, which were inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2019.

The cultural days began with a press conference held at the Royal Museums in historic Turin, which is of great national and international importance, represented in preserving

Heritage and archaeological sites and enhancing them to access knowledge and humanitarian creativity.

The Conference was attended by Director of Museums, Enrica Pagella, and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Syrian Trust for Development, Fares Kalas, Consultant expert of the Trust, Reem Saqr, and Secretary of the Royal Gardens and Architect, Dr. Stephania Dassi, and the Secretary-General of the Santagata Organization for the economy of Culture Alessio King

Following the press conference, an exhibition of photographs that imitates the Damascene Rose and the practices and crafts associated with it was opened. And as a continuation of the historical path to transfer the rose from Damascus to the heart of Europe, 500 seedlings of the rose were planted inthe museum gardens.
