Damascus, SANA- General Secretariat of the General Union of Arab Writers condemned in the strongest terms the burning of a copy of the holy Qur’an by affiliates of groups that hide behind freedom of opinion and expression in Sweden.
The General Secretariat said that this extremist and barbaric behavior is contrary to all international laws and conventions, which stipulate the need to adhere to respecting the sanctities of peoples, their beliefs and religions, adding that this outrageous behavior is a flagrant provocation to the feelings of hundreds of millions of Muslims all over the world.
Secretary-General of the Union, Dr. Alaa Abdel-Hadi, affirmed that these extremist actions will lead to provoking feelings of hatred, undermining stability, and creating enmities among peoples.
The Union of Arab Writers in Syria also condemned this crime, which would feed extremist terrorist ideology, stressing that what happened in Stockholm, on the first day of Eid al-Adha, is a crime that contradicts the call for respect the religious freedoms of nations and peoples in the world.
