Damascus, SANA- Special Advisor at the Republic Presidency, Bouthaina Shaaban, said on Sunday that Western countries have circulated for decades and used democracy as a cover for their wars and dominance in the world.
“After World War II, the West founded the idea that it was the only force that eliminated Nazism, ignoring the role of the Soviet Union at that time, which lost more than 20 million of its citizens to defeat this evil, and since then, the western media and educational systems have been trying to show the former Soviet Union and its allies as enemies of freedom,” Shaaban said in her speech before the High-Level Virtual Forum on Global Governance of Human Rights, which is being held in China.
“Since Britain and France are colonial powers and the United States was and remains the largest military power, it is easy for them to introduce their concepts into the minds of millions of people around the world by repeating their propaganda about democracy, freedom and humans rights, while at the same time they are killing millions of people around the world,” She added.
Shaaban considered that the West, after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the military, moral and intellectual domination of the world by the United States, promoted a democracy that would only serve its wars and hegemony.
She explained that, with the advent of the 21st century, things began to change for two reasons: the first is the United States’ wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and then NATO’s destruction of Libya, and support for the Israeli occupation policy against the Palestinian people, made people reflect on the reality of what the West is doing.
While the second reason, according to Shabaan, is the rise of China and Russia’s alternative discourse, especially after the Russian special operation in Ukraine and after the rise of the BRICS group and the Shanghai Organization, and most people began to find alternatives to Western discourse and Western organizations.
Shaaban noted that the Chinese president delivered an interactive speech, supporting democracy and human rights, which are the core of cultural, historical and civilizational content, which disagreed with liberal democracy,by doing so, the Chinese president has weakened the concepts of liberal democracy.
She underlined that the Western trend is currently more dangerous than all previous wars, because it targets humanity and is biased against a fragile group, calling for a mass stance to protect children from poisonous Western thoughts.
