10 explosive devices defused in Palmyra eastern countryside, Homs

Homs, SANA – Authorities in the countryside of Homs province foiled terrorists’ attempt to blow up explosive devices they had earlier planted in eastern Palmyra city in the countryside.

Authorities found 10 explosive devices planted inside water channels and under bridges in the area, a source in the province, which is located in central Syria, told SANA on Sunday.

“The explosive devices were successfully dismantled without causing any damage,” said the source, noting that the devices weighed 25 to 40 kilograms and had been prepared to be remotely detonated.

Terrorists from Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) are active in Palmyra eastern countryside and have been taking over oil and gas wells and smuggling and selling stolen fuel outside the country in violation of the Security Council resolution no. 2199 which prohibits buying oil from terrorist groups.
