Wellington, SANA- New Zealand has announced its intention to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to those affected by the earthquake that jolted Syria at dawn on Monday.
“New Zealand is deeply saddened by the loss of lives and devastation caused by this earthquake,” New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta said in a statement posted on the New Zealand government’s website today.
She added “Through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Wellington will make an initial contribution of NZD 500,000 for the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) to meet humanitarian needs.”
Earlier on Monday at dawn, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck northern Syria, causing, according to the Ministry of Health, 1,449 injuries and 812 deaths in the provinces of Aleppo, Lattakia, Hama, Idleb and Tartous were recorded in an infinite toll.
