Damascus, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, met on Thursday with Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini.
Minister Mikdad stressed Syria’s firm and supportive stances for the Palestinian people in the face of the attempt to liquidate their cause in light of the racist practices by the Israeli occupation entity and those behind it, as well as Syria’s condemnation of the Israeli extremists’ attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and as well as on the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
“Syria rejects attempts to undermine UNRWA’s role in supporting the Palestinians”Mikdad added.
Minister Mikdad spoke about the dangers of unilateral coercive sanctions on the lives of the Palestinians in Syria, who share with the Syrian people their livelihood and their aspirations to return to their motherland, Palestine again.
He reaffirmed that Syria will continue to provide the necessary support for UNRWA to continue its work in Syria.
Lazzarini, for his part, expressed UNRWA’s intention to sustain providing aid to the Palestinian refugees in Syria, and extending appreciation to the Syrian government for its efforts and cooperation in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinians.
He asserted the importance of support to address the challenges facing UNRWA, especially in the field of finance.
