Ministerial and economic meeting to discuss establishing small projects

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi stressed that the government is so keen to protect locally-made industrial products and support projects of considerably small sizes.

He was speaking during a meeting dedicated for reviewing work regarding the implementation of governmental plans for developing and establishing small and medium-size industrial projects on Thursday.

The government, the Premier said, is working to create a favorable environment to enable the establishment of such projects in light of its efforts to cover the local market’s needs of products and commodities and even moving towards the export stage.

Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs Omar Ghalawanji presented in the course of the meeting a review of the foundations on which small and medium-size projects can be established.

Such projects are “an urgent need to tackle the repercussions of the crisis on national economy,” said Ghalawanji, who is Minister of Local Administration.

He added that these projects should be set up to serve as a ground on which to later establish greater projects in the post-crisis stage.

At the end of the meeting Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade was asked to prepare an institutional structural study and develop a vision for the building of such projects to be put forward before the cabinet.

The attendees included ministers of Agriculture, Finance, Tourism, Labor and Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Chairperson of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission, Governor of the Central Bank of Syria and representatives of chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture among many others.
