Damascus, SANA-Member of Hamas Political Bureau, Khalil al-Hayya, said that Syria embraced the Palestinian people, and provided them with what no other country offered, and people and leadership were and still supporting the resistance, pointing out that President Bashar al-Assad’s meeting with leaders and representatives of Palestinian factions is historic, and a starting point.
“Hamas Movement turns the page and resumes work with Syria in support of the Palestinian cause,” al-Hayya during a press conference along with Palestinian factions in Damascus on Wednesday.
“We expressed our happiness over the meeting with President al-Assad which comes in light of the new intifada -uprising- of the Palestinian people in the West Bank against the Israeli occupation, and in light of its repeated aggression against al-Quds and the Islamic and Christian holy sites,” al-Hayya said, adding that the Palestinian people will not be broken and their uprising is growing and will defeat the occupation which is in a state of division and weakness.
Al-Hayya continued: the meeting in the heart of Syria is a natural response from the Palestinian resistance forces that we are united in confronting Zionist projects and American bullying targeting the Palestinian Cause and the region.
“This day is a glorious one, in which we resume joint work with all the Palestinian national forces and factions. We resume joint work with Syria in support of our cause and our people and also in support of Syria’s stability and unity. We have started a new page on the basis of serving our two countries and peoples”.
He described the meeting with President al-Assad as positive and friendly, as “we assured his excellency that we are with Syria and against targeting it from any external aggression.”
“We turn any previous influential page. Any individual action here and there is a wrong action that the movement’s leadership has not and will not approve of. We agree to move beyond the past and go to the future”.
“Hamas has taken the decision to restore its relation with Syria, and this relation gives strength to the axis of resistance in the region and the Palestinian resistance in particular, stressing the importance of ending the Palestinian division, uniting ranks, and following up on the implementation of the reconciliation agreement recently signed in Algeria to achieve this goal,” Al-Hayya added.
Al-Hayya went on to say “Our message to our people and brothers in Syria is a message of love and loyalty to people who embraced the Palestinians, the Palestinian resistance, and embraced Hamas; the issue that we have not seen anywhere else”.
For his part, Talal Naji, the Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command (PFLP—GC), said: “We waited for a long time for this meeting with President al-Assad and worked for it over the past years. We are happy today that relations between Hamas and dear Syria, the citadel of steadfastness, return to normal.
Naji added “we were received by Mr. President with a loving heart, and a transcendent attitude, through which he expressed his personal love for the Palestinian people, their cause, resistance, determination, insistence and decision that our meeting today will open a new page, and a new start in the path of relations”.
