Mikdad receives credentials of UNDP’s Resident Representative

Damascus,SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr.Fayssal Mikdad received Wednesday credentials of Sudipto Mukerji as the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Syria.

Mikdad asserted Syria’s great interest in its relation with UNDP, hailing the program’s positive role  reflected on the development process in Syria.

Minister Mikdad presented the catastrophic repercussions of the terrorist war and the coercive economic measures imposed by the West on the Syrians, in addition to looting Syria’s resources by US occupation, “which affect the human development ratings in the country”.

Mikdad clarified that the security Council resolution no.2642 places obligation on the UN agencies and all related parties to implement early recovery projects and support the restoration of power sector to its normal along with rehabilitating the schools and hospitals destroyed by terrorists.

In turn, Mukerji briefed Mikdad with UNDP projects, activities and priorities in Syria, stressing that the program focuses on the power and water projects and all issues related to early recovery, in addition to offering the essential services and building cadres that come in the interest of their joint priorities.

The newly appointed Resident Representative asserted UNDP adherence to complete coordination with the Syrian side represented by its agencies and ministries with the aim of supporting Syria in restoring its developmental achievements in all domains.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign and Expatriates minister,Dr.Bashar al-Jaafari.
