Nur-Sultan, SANA- The Syrian Arab Republic delegation, headed by Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Ayman Sousan, held a session of talks on Thursday morning with the Iranian delegation, headed by Ali Asghar Khaji, Senior Assistant to Foreign Minister in Special Political Affairs.
That came on the second day of the 18th International Meeting on Syria in the Astana format.
Talks during the meeting dealt with the latest developments of the situations in Syria and the items on the agenda of the international meeting, particularly the threats of launching aggression on the Syrian territory by the Turkish regime.
In this regard, Dr. Sousan reiterated that Syria strongly condemns the aggressive behavior of the Turkish regime and it refutes the excuses it makes for launching aggression against Syria, which constitutes a violation of international law and totally contradicts the understandings and outputs of Astana, which the Turkish regime has consistently denied and not adhered to.
For his part, Asghar Khaji affirmed Iran’s rejection of any Turkish aggression against Syria and its keenness on the unity and integrity of Syrian territories.
He stressed that such acts and threats only lead to an escalation of the situation in the region, and they must be stopped.
Asghar Khaji said that the views were identical on the importance of intensifying consultations and communications between the two countries in the current circumstances.
On Wednesday, the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic, headed by Dr. Sousan, held two separate sessions of talks, the first with the delegation of the Russian Federation headed by Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria, and the second with the United Nations delegation headed by Robert Dann, Chief of Political Affairs in the office of the UN Special Envoy for Syria and head of the UN delegation to the Astana meetings.
