Paris, SANA- The Paris Court of Appeal confirmed the charge of complicity in crimes against humanity against the French cement company Lafarge through its activities in support of terrorist organizations in Syria until 2014.
AFP quoted the representative of the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) as welcoming the decision by saying: “It is a symbolic decision and we hope that the investigative judges will be able to carry out their work.”
For his part, attorney Joseph Briham, who is an attorney for about 100 former Syrian employees in the company, said: “It is an additional step against the impunity of the perpetrators of the worst crimes of economic actors.”
lawyers Mathieu Pagar and Elise Lugal, who are attorneys for fifty former Syrian civil servants in the case, also expressed their satisfaction with the decision, describing it as an important step.
In 2018, Lafarge was indicted by French investigative judges for complicity in crimes against humanity, in addition to funding terrorist organizations including Daesh “ISIS” in Syria.
On September 7th last year, the French Court of Cassation confirmed the accusation of financing terrorism in Syria against the French cement company Lafarge, while reversing the decision of the appeals court to annul the accusation against the same company of complicity in crimes. against humanity in Syria.
