Washington, SANA Russian Ambassador in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, has affirmed that the US is trying to defame Russia through many economic measures, including those related to the debt file.
Earlier, the US Department of the Treasury had announced that Washington will not allow Russia to pay sovereign debt payments in dollars to US banks.
“We see in the US steps a desire to defame Russia, which, despite the economic obstacles set up by Washington, continues to fulfill its debt obligations in good faith and in a timely manner,” RIA Novosti news agency quoted Antonov as telling reporters.
Antonov noted that the new US sanctions against Russia are confirmation that Washington continues to harm the global economy, undermine opportunities for foreign partners for mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia, and leave foreign business without the necessary income in the current period of economic turmoil.
Antonov described US sanctions against Sberbank and Alfa-Bank as directly targeting the ordinary Russian citizens.
